Employee Free Choice Act "Talking Points" Printing Industries Alliance has developed "Talking Points" to assist PIA members in discussing the Employee Free Choice Act with friends, business associates or staff.  Contact PIA at (800) 777-4742 or (908) 233-4124 if you have any questions on this issue. Comments Needed on Proposed Regulations Released by NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation  A recent email sent out by Printing Industries Alliance asked for members to comment on proposed revisions to Part 234-Graphic Arts.  Click here to review the proposed changes and click here for a summary of proposed applicability and regulatory requirements.  Comments should be sent to Gary Jones, Director EHS Affairs, Printing Industries of America at gjones@printing.org and are due by February 17th. 


OSHA Recordkeeping On-Demand Webinar   PIA safety-trainer extraordinaire, Jerry Banks, has developed a webinar that reviews the OSHA recordkeeping requirements associated with Form 300A.  Form 300A must be posted from February 1st to April 30th.  This webinar can be played at any time by downloading it from the "Vault".  Login username and password is required.  Request your codes from PIA at (800) 777-4742 or info@PIAlliance.orgClick here to download the OSHA pdf containing Form 300A.

Enthusiastic Crowd Attends 2009 Franklin Event  The Franklin Award for Distinguished Service was presented to Cathie Black, President, Hearst Magazines on September 30th at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers, New York City.  Industry awards were presented to four individuals.  Click here to read more information.  


Action Alert:  Health Care Reform  The U.S. Senate voted along straight party lines 60-39 Saturday evening to move into discussion a massive 2,000-page healthcare reform bill. Debate on the measure will begin next week. As this is a lengthy and complicated bill, click here for a summary.  


New Employee Notification Requirements in New York State  As announced in a recent email sent to PIA members located in New York State, a
dditional new employee wage notification requirements went into effect October 26, in New York State, whereby NY employers must provide new hires with written notification regarding wages, rates of pay and overtime rules.  Click here for NYS DOL Notice.

Revised (& Required) EEO Poster Now Available  The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission just released a revised EEO is the Law poster that includes language regarding the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008.  Even if employers do not conduct genetic testing, the notice is still required of employers with 15+ employees.  The employer provisions are effective 11/21/09.  Download the new poster here.


NYS Printers:  Quick Action Needed on Proposed NYS "Do Not Mail" Legislation:  Two separate bills have been introduced into the New York State legislature, both of which will negatively impact the production of advertising mail, mail stream volume and ultimately, your company.  Even if your company doesn't print material that is mailed, this issue is important to you and we need your participation.  Click here for a full description of the legislation and why it is important to you.  A sample letter has been prepared for your use in protesting this legislation, which you may edit if you wish, and will automatically be sent to the correct legislator as determined by your local zip code.   Click here to send the email to your NYS Assembly representative and/or Senator; it will only take a few minutes of your time.  It is important that they hear from you!
